A hot, humid day leaves more than sweat on your skin. It leaves sunscreen, sebum and friction from clothes. Most people ask whether a shower oil is "strong enough" to deal with all that. The better question is what you want your skin to feel like afterwards. Clean is the easy part.
The 15-second answer
- Oil lifts oil: sunscreen and the oily part of sweat dissolve into the shower oil, then rinse away as it turns milky.
- Twice-daily showers add up. A cleanse that doesn't leave skin tight is easier to repeat.
- It is not a deodorant. Keep yours.
- Sensitive or irritated skin: read the ingredient list and patch-test first.
- Most days, the shower oil alone is enough.
1. Does a shower oil actually wash off sweat and sunscreen?
Yes. Oil dissolves oil, so it suits sunscreen and sweat residue well. Add water and the oil turns to a milky emulsion that rinses off. It doesn't sit on top as a film.
2. If you shower twice a day, is a shower oil better than a foaming wash?
For many people it's more comfortable, and comfort is what makes a routine stick. Washing twice a day is the real stressor, whatever the cleanser. A cleanse that leaves lipids behind rather than lifting them away tends to feel kinder at that frequency. That's a comfort claim, not a medical one.
3. Will a shower oil stop body odour?
No, and we'd rather say so plainly. The Radiance Shower Oil washes away sweat and the residue that builds up. It isn't a deodorant and it isn't antibacterial. Keep using yours.
4. Is it OK for skin that gets irritated by heat, friction or frequent washing?
Often more comfortable, but check before you switch. Read the full ingredient list. Our oils contain sweet almond, so skip them if you have a nut allergy. Patch-test on a small area for a few days. If your skin is broken, inflamed or under a doctor's care, ask them first. A shower oil is a cleanser. It doesn't treat rashes.
5. After a sweaty day, shower oil then body oil, or is one enough?
On humid days, the shower oil alone is usually enough. On drier days, or when skin feels tight, add a few drops of Radiance Nourishing Oil to damp skin afterwards. Cleanse, then seal. The second step is optional, and you can decide it by how your skin feels.
The reframe
Don't ask whether a shower oil is strong enough for a sweaty day. Ask whether you'd still be happy to repeat the cleanse tomorrow, and the day after. Cleansing that skin tolerates is the kind that lasts.
